P Q R S T U V W X Y Z Pond: Park’s pond is one of our campus’s signature elements! Brought back to health thanks to the recirculating stream and waterfall added in 2019, the pond is a constantly changing eco-system, teaching our students about different flora and fauna, including cattails, snapping turtles, great blue herons, geese, and more. Questioning: At Park students are taught to question the world around them. The scientific method is taught across all grades and subjects, and students learn that by asking questions, they gain more knowledge and a more thorough understanding of each subject. Respect: One of Park's four Core Values, ensuring that all members of the community feel accepted for who they are. Responsibility: Another of Park's Core Values, we strive to be a community of people who can be trusted to do what is right. Senior Thesis: Park seniors cannot graduate until they finish their senior thesis. Written on a topic of their choosing, seniors are guided by a faculty advisor as they craft an argument for or against something. Recent topics have included “Should College Athletes be Compensated for Play?,”“Plastic Pollution in Marine Environments” and “Urban Food Deserts - Their Causes and Remedies, With a Special Look at Buffalo, NY” among many others. There is a School!: If you’ve ever attended a Park concert or assembly, you know the spirit with which our students sing The Park School Song. “Oh, there is a school that’s known in these parts, it’s name is Park School and it’s won our hearts, so we’d like to know a school with more go, and we’ll stand by it till the end, Oh!” Upper School Class Day: Each school year culminates in the Class Day event for our Grades 9-12. Students are honored for their academic, athletic, and arts accomplishments, and our senior class receives their quotes and books from their advisors. Veterans Day Community Gathering: The Park School community gathers in the Circle to honor those who have served and continue to serve our country. Names of those dear to members of the Park community are read aloud as the flag is raised, and the community shares in a moment of silence. The Witch: As the culmination of Halloween celebrations, the mystery Halloween Witch leads the students in a parade around the Circle. Students try to guess which teacher is underneath the Witch’s costume, and as their mask is removed and their identity is finally revealed! FoXes: Wildlife abounds on our campus! Groundhogs, deer, geese, blue heron, snapping turtles, red-tailed hawks, and yes, even foxes roam the grounds and offer beautiful sights as well as learning opportunities for our community. Yearbook: Park’s yearbook, called Spark, is a student-led annual publication. Each year, Upper School students creating the yearbook work for a semester to design and curate the publication, doing everything from taking photos to writing articles to laying out each page before it goes to print. Zoo Day: An annual outing for students in Kindergarten through Grade 4 and the Senior class. Lower School students are paired with their Senior buddies and guided through the Zoo, visiting the exhibits and enjoying the day together. Zoo Day is the first of several experiences that the younger students share with their Senior buddies throughout the year including the Lower School's year-end Senior Assembly and Ice Cream Social. 22
