28 Grade 5 students have ELA class every day. Today, they got competitive learning about the elements of plot. First, they challenged one another to a game of Plot Structure Showdown. Students used examples and definitions of different elements of plot, as well as direct quotes from a short story that represented each element to get “four of a kind.” The plot work continued as they participated in an escape room activity by unscrambling words, answering questions, and hunting for clues to crack the codes and escape! 9:15 | ELA WITH MRS. ZINCK Math is also a daily class for Grade 5. Today’s class had students working on their “River Trail Project,” which required an understanding of fractions to create a map of a river and the landmarks - parks, campsites, picnic areas - found along the waterway. Ms. Littlefield’s lesson laid the groundwork for creating this map by teaching fraction multiplication, reinforcing equivalent fractions, and helping students develop recognition of relationships within fractions (¼ is ½ of a ½). The end result of the lesson was students being able to create a beautiful map that demonstrates deep understanding. 10:10 | MATH WITH MS. LITTLEFIELD The mid-day block sends Grade 5 to recess four days per rotation and to clubs two days per rotation. During recess, Park students love to spend more time outside and can often be found building a fort in the woods or playing four square with their 6th grade friends. 11:05 | RECESS
