ACADEMICS MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADES 5-8 CURRICULUM The Park School of Buffalo’s Middle School program is unlike any other. We provide a rigorous curriculum that leaves students “stretched, not stressed,” allowing them to push academic boundaries, ask questions, and be engaged in the classroom. They will immerse themselves in a fully supportive and community-like atmosphere as our experienced faculty utilizes experiential learning and differentiates instruction to meet each student’s needs. We foster a smooth transition out of the self-contained classrooms of lower school by offering a team-based teaching model for Grades 5 and 6. This allows faculty to collaborate and support students both academically and emotionally during this transitional period. When students enter Grade 5, World Language is considered a core academic class along with Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. In Grades 7 and 8, students gain even more independence as they transition into an academic program with five core subject teachers. When students begin Middle School, they are given the opportunity for choice in their academic program by choosing their world language, vocal or instrumental ensemble (or both), and their non-academic clubs. In order to develop well-rounded students, our Middle School program increases the time devoted to specials courses. Courses like art, drama, music, and physical education meet more frequently in middle school.
